Tragedy struck in Badagry, Lagos, yesterday, when a three-month-
old infant, Abiodun Alabi was burnt to death. The fire incident occurred at Wazobia Junction, Tako 11, when a new mother, who lives in a self contained apartment with her 10year old son and 3 month old daughter, went to a night vigil and left her 10 year old
son to watch the infant.
It’s alleged that before she left the apartment, she lit a candle in the apartment because there was no electricity. Her husband wasn’t home at this time because he travelled a lot as a transporter.
The 10 year old boy left both his younger sister and the candle at home and headed for a neighbour’s apartment to watch television and eventually passed the night with them.
Unfortunately the candle burnt out completely which led to a fire outbreak that consumed the entire apartment which burnt the infant to death before help could come.

8 more Nigerians are reportedly waiting to be executed in Indonesia. This is according to the United Nigerians in Diaspora, a group of Nigerians living outside the country.
The group at a press conference in Lagos yesterday May 5th, gave the names of Nigerians waiting to be executed as Michael Titus Igwe, Kingsley Okonkwo, Uchenna Onyewuru, Eugene Ape, Hunphery Ejike, Obinna Nwajiagu, Benjamin Onuoha and Ikenna Abanukwu.
Chairman of the group, Mr Pascal Okolie while briefing newsmen, said Nigerians should rally round with other world leaders to stop the expected executions.
“Considering that the next batch of execution will take place in no distant time in Indonesia, we urge the good people of Nigeria and our government to rise up with the entire world to stop further executions of Nigerians. Enough of the killings. Nigeria should leverage on the strong bilateral relationship it has with Indonesia and negotiate to stop the execution of the eight waiting to be killed. The political tussle between the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the country’s major opposition party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) might have taken a new turn as the APC governors recently elected have made a shocking accusation against President Goodluck Jonathan.Vanguard reports that both old and new governors elected on the platform of the opposition party are accusing the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan of running the economy to a standstill.
The governors under the umbrella of Progressives Forum on Tuesday in Abuja alleged that President Jonathan left them with empty treasury to work with.
The Chairman of the Forum and Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, who made this known during a visit to the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, alleged that Buhari would be embraced with extraordinary financial challenges after taking up the mantle of leadership from Jonathan on May 29.
Okorocha, who spoke further during the governors-elect congratulatory visit to the President-elect, expressed optimism that the non-payment of April salaries by the Federal Government was an indication that the economy is already in ruins.
Meanwhile, while the APC governors-elect are busy castigating President Jonathan and making all sort of accusation, Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan is busy brainstorming on ways to help the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari carry all geo-political zones along to avoid any form of marginalisation.
